Our Story

Gigaflow believes that rapidly building new capacity is the best way to achieve our clean energy goals. Distributed energy resources (DERs) such as solar, storage and EV charging can be deployed quickly and cost effectively, but development is being slowed by inefficiencies in the interconnection process:

  • Interconnection cost uncertainty leads developers to submit speculative applications, creating long queues

  • Utility engineers or consultants study applications manually to determine grid impacts and interconnection costs

  • After waiting months or years for study results, developers withdraw most applications due to high costs

    • Nationally, 75% of DER capacity submitted for interconnection never signs an agreement

    • In active DER markets, withdrawal rates are worse - in National Grid (NY), 90% of MWs submitted in 2023 were withdrawn, a 40% increase from 2020

  • Long interconnection timelines and high withdrawal rates add unnecessary overhead to DER development and slow the pace of deployment

Gigaflow was built to shorten interconnection timelines and increase success rates for mid-market (100 kW - 10 MW) DER projects.

  • Founder & CEO

Samantha has 15 years of experience in both industry and investing, including 10 years in software and 5 in distributed energy

    • At Blueprint Power, Samantha experienced firsthand the challenges of building distributed energy projects. In conversations with developers, she heard repeatedly that the interconnection process is the main barrier to more rapidly expanding clean energy capacity

    • Recognizing the potential for software and automated modeling to address this challenge, she built Gigaflow to bring those tools to utilities and DER developers

Advisors

Gigaflow is advised by an experienced team of DER developers, distribution engineers and utility executives.
